A Finnish folk song I learnt from Selma Vilhunen during the filming of her documentary LAULU. The poem is by Kaarle Krohn (1863-1933) and tells of a young wanderer who sees a rose in a valley but, being poor, dares not pluck it and now cannot forget it.

ja se kauniisti kukoistaa.
Yksi kulkijapoika on nähnyt sen,
eikä voi sitä unhoittaa.

Ja sen olisi kyllä hän poiminut
ja sen painanut povelleen,
mutta köyhänä ei ole tohtinut
vaan on jättänyt paikoilleen.
